Reminder to comment on traffic calming measures for Central, Eastern, Northern and Southern regions

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to remind residents, interested parties or groups that the comment period for the proposed traffic calming measures for the Southern, Northern, Central and Eastern regions closes next week Monday, 2 June 2025.
‘Traffic calming measures enhance pedestrian safety, particularly around schools where the highest concentration of vulnerable road users is usually found. Just last month, Capetonians were debating a recent study’s findings that parents are concerned about their children’s safety on the roads and I hope that parents will also take this opportunity to add their recommendations around these proposed traffic calming measures to ensure that their concerns are also addressed,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The following areas have been identified for the proposed traffic calming measures:
Central Region:
Avondale, Langa, Milnerton, Parklands, Table View, Protea Park and Robinvale
Eastern Region:
Somerset West, Khayelitsha, Blue Downs, Mitchells Plain, Eerste River, Philippi, Kuils River, Blackheath, Mandalay and Mfuleni
Northern Region:
Belhar, Bellville, Bishop Lavis, Bonteheuwel, Brackenfell, Delft, Durbanville, Elsies River, Eversdal, Goodwood, Kraaifontein, Monte Vista, Parow, Ravensmead, The Hague, Vredekloof and Wallacedene
Southern Region:
Kommetjie - Imhoff Gift, Plumstead, Rylands, Seawinds, Rondebosch East, Crawford, Vrygrond, Gugulethu, Lavender Hill, Manenberg, Sun Valley, Fish Hoek, Belthorn Estate, Rondebosch, Wynberg, Kenilworth, Nyanga, Meadowridge, Grassy Park, Bergvliet, Surrey Estate, Claremont, Ocean View, Diep River, Costa da Gama and Bishopscourt.

Comments, recommendations and input may be submitted via the local subscouncil offices and libraries in each area.

In terms of Section 17 of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, Act 32 of 2000, the public and interested parties or groups are given the opportunity to submit comments, recommendations or input on the traffic calming measures to the municipality from Friday, 2 May 2025, until Monday, 2 June 2025.
